About the project:
Dharmapals is designed to be a meditation community outreach program for seniors in the Bay Area. After doing research on meditation’s long-term beneficial effects on seniors health, I came to the conclusion that it was a much needed solution for the shifting demographic and current healthcare crisis.
I currently volunteer at Lytton Gardens Skilled Nursing Home and lead a meditation group. It wasn’t long until I realized this: the residents really resonate with guided meditation podcasts, and feel that a weekly guided meditation group is not enough. They want to be able to access the podcasts whenever and wherever because it’s greatly helping their mental, physical and emotional health. Based on their expressed interest in receiving the podcasts on portable devices, providing them with ipods and mp3s would allow them the ability to practice meditation regularly. Regular meditation practice allows one to self-regulate his or her pain and suffering.
I see this as an opportunity to give back to the community by positively impacting seniors’ long-term health. Please join me in improving the mind, body and spirit of our elders.
